Types of dual SIM 

There are two options when getting a dual SIM: Dual SIM Dual Standby (DSDA) and Dual SIM Full Active (DSFA). 

DSDA SIMs only have one SIM active at a time, so when using one SIM to call, calls from the other are unavailable. Calls can come through either SIM if neither are in use, but if you are calling with one, you cannot also call with another.  

Your primary SIM card (normally the one in the first slot) will default to using your data, but some phones allow you to change which SIM uses data. 

DSFA allows both SIM cards to stay connected, so phone calls can come through on either SIMs at any time, giving you ultimate accessibility. However, this type of dual SIM phone is not as common. 

Some phones will only let you activate SIMs on a specific network so do your research before investing.
